AGE - Recent ORIGIN - Papua New Guinea COMPOSITION- Dried pulped bark of the paper mulberry tree. DESCRIPTION - This gorgeous tribal item was painted by the Maisin tribe of Papua New Guinea. The Maisin paint their designs on their tapa cloths using natural pigments derived from bark, charcoal and leaves. These cloths are used for clothing, trade, tribal ceremonies and as tribal art. CONDITION - Minor repairs to rear of piece, not visible from front face. SIZE - Size is 300mm x 580mm (12 x 23 inches) |
